What is VOS?

Vision Online Services (VOS) is a suite of web-based services that integrate with Vision to allow patients to communicate with their practice via the internet, helping to get them more involved with their own healthcare.

The online advantage

The general public has readily accepted the internet as a safe and secure way of accessing confidential information; many people are at ease with the concept of online banking.

Communicating with practices via the internet is particularly appealing to patients:

  • They can access their practice at a time that suits them, even outside of normal practice opening hours
  • Patients have the flexibility of contacting their practice from any location, such as from home, at work or even on holiday
  • There is no need to wait in a telephone queue, or physically queue at the practice to talk to a receptionist
  • It is a discreet and confidential service

Good for the practice too

VOS makes it easy for practices to give their patients better access to information and services. It can also save you time and help you to work more efficiently too.

Every appointment booked and every repeat prescription requested online is a patient request that can be handled automatically without human intervention, dramatically reducing your administrative workload.

The VOS starter pack contains posters, leaflets and other material to help practices market the service to their patients.

Safe and Secure

INPS has made sure that VOS adheres to the highest levels of internet security.

Fully integrated with Vision

VOS fully integrates with your Vision system, and the online services work seamlessly alongside standard operation within the practice. The information seen by patients is a real-time view of the corresponding information in Vision, so there is no need to synchronise data for online access.

The VOS roadmap

VOS is INPS’ strategic solution for patient-centric functionality and over time will be developed to offer a wide range of services:

  • Vision Online Appointments was launched in 2010. It allows patients to book and cancel GP and nurse appointments online.
  • Vision Online Repeats will be launched in the summer of 2011. It will allow patients to request their repeat medication over the internet.
  • Future services will include the ability to view test results, summaries of medical histories and e-consultations between patients and clinicians.
