Improving Access with VOS

The Health Centre in Tarporley, Cheshire, has been using Vision Online Services (VOS) since the start of February.

Practice Manager, Mike Guest, describes how VOS improves patient access to the practice; “VOS will ease the workload in reception at the start and end of each day. Patients will be able to book appointments 24 hours per day, 7 days per week. They will not have to phone in before the surgery closes or just after it has opened.”

Registration is trouble-free for patients, as Mike explains; “Patients simply email us with their name, DOB and email address. We then email back an authorisation letter, a user guide and a handy hints sheet. To date no patient has come back with any problem registering!”

The feedback has been good from the Health Centre’s patients, and Mike thinks there will be a noticeable difference when the online repeat prescription requests are added to VOS; “We think when repeat prescriptions becomes available the uptake to VOS will be much higher, both for repeats and appointments.”

We asked Mike what long-term benefits he feels VOS will provide; “I do think the use of our website, online appointments and repeat prescriptions in the long term will increase the communication channels we have with patients. The ability to communicate with patients about other matters is extended, for example; annual reviews, flu vaccination programmes etc, will be greatly improved - it’s a slow process for a patient group such as ours, but one that has been started with the use of VOS.”
