Searches and Reports: Part 3

Achieve a greater understanding of Vision Searches

Understand how to export searches into Microsoft Excel and how best to interpret the imported data.

We have revised our advanced searches and reports course into two (parts three and four) at the request of our customers. This course will be hands on with the delegate having access to a computer or sharing with another staff member.

Who Should Attend?

This course is suitable for those who are tasked to audit and search Vision data. Delegates should already have attended the Vision searches Parts 1 & 2 (or Searches and Reports Intermediate) as there will be no coverage of searching in Vision apart from extracting the data for use in Excel; no prior knowledge of Excel is required but would be useful.

Pre-requisite

Delegates should have a confident understanding of running Vision searches; anybody who does not have such prior understanding is likely to gain little benefit from this course as Vision searching per se is not covered in this course.

Aims

To provide a greater understanding of exporting searches into Microsoft Excel and how best to interpret the imported data.

Objectives

By the end of the course the delegates will be able to understand the possibilities and potential of exporting data.

Course Content

The need for analysis and audit of clinical data is an ever increasing requirement from practices. Whilst much of this additional audit requirement can be satisfied with the current search functions in Vision, using applications like Microsoft Excel and Access can provide quick and customisable analysis. This course is designed to show participants some of the functionality of Microsoft Excel which will help practices to achieve efficient and useful reports from their Vision data. It will provide a greater understanding of exporting Vision searches into Microsoft Excel and how best to interpret the imported data:

  • Export a search using both DBF and tab separated formats
  • Explain the difference between both types of export
  • Set up a workstation ready to import data into Excel
  • Import DBF data using Microsoft Query
  • Import data using tab separated files
  • Move / copy spreadsheets into a single workbook
  • Provide a basic understanding of Microsoft Excel
  • Understand and use the VLOOKUP formula
  • Know how to format cells
  • Use Microsoft Excel filters
  • Make use of pivot tables
  • Create charts
  • Create and run a macro in Excel
