Training Consultancy Identifies Time Savings
Skewen Medical Centre near Swansea has been using Vision for almost eight years and have not had any Vision training for “a very long time”. INPS Training Consultant, Sarah Chant, visited the practice in October 2010 to provide a training consultancy service, helping them to get more from Vision.

Question time
As soon as she arrived, the enthusiastic practice staff were eager to see Sarah and ask questions. A review of QOF and Clinical Audit highlighted some potential improvements; downloading additional audits from the INPS website was beneficial for Practice Manager, Ann Howells, “I had previously been building my own searches so using the new audits will save me some time.”
Save time
More time was saved with Mail Manager too, as Ann explains, “I have spent hours and hours removing ‘completed actions’. Sarah suggested I should call the Vision Helpline, which I have since done and we are now up to date”. One of the GPs at the practice was also enthusiastic about Mail Manager when he learnt how some of the recent enhancements would save him time.
New functionality
Next on Sarah’s list was a review of the new features in DLM310. The practice was not aware of all of the new functionality, and Ann explains that patient warnings were of particular interest, “The patient warnings will be of great use to us, and in fact we have already used this feature for some of our asthma patients who are using their inhalers too much.”
Custom made
Sarah was able to customise the practice’s reception guideline, adding an extra line that will allow patients who lose their prescriptions to be tracked. Ann said, “We have introduced a ‘three times and out’ policy for patients who regularly lose their prescriptions. This will help us considerably with tracking this.”
Learn new tricks
The consultancy day demonstrated how a practice that has been using Vision for many years can learn new things and have their system customised to improve efficiency. Ann was delighted with the day, “Sarah is very approachable and takes time to explain how things are done. I would certainly recommend Vision training from INPS to other practices.”
