Busy GP applauds bespoke training consultancy

Ashbourne Medical Practice is a 5 partner practice with 7500 patients. They are an approved Training practice, therefore required to meet the highest standards of primary health care delivery. They are also a dispensing practice. They last had Vision training in April 2010 and had a Vision training consultancy day with INPS Training Consultant Rachael Magee in November 2010. Consultancy days are structured around the practice’s requirements at that time, covering any aspects of Vision and how to apply Vision to particular circumstances.

Trained for the first time

Training on Vision searches allowed Dr. Curry to identify groups of patients, “I have never had any formal Vision training before, and I was unsure what to expect. I had asked to have search training as I have taken on responsibility for a particular group of patients - those with heart failure - and wanted to be able to look at various aspects of their symptoms and care.”

Impressed and relieved

Dr Curry was impressed with Rachael’s approach to training, “I was very relieved to find that Rachael did not feel that she had to work to a standard script, she was very happy to show me the specifics that I needed to know for the piece of work I am doing, without feeling that she had to explain to me everything else about how to do searches, which I would probably never use and therefore just forget!

As a busy GP, this was an ideal approach. I was able to remain focussed throughout the training as it was something that I knew I would use, for a defined purpose. I’m very keen to have this type of training again, rather than the formally laid on days which are open to all. I feel that this style of teaching and learning is much better suited to the variable needs of the average general practice.”

More Vision training

GP2GP was also discussed and as there was a new member of staff Rachael started at the beginning, explaining how effective Mail Manager can be. The practice were impressed with this and have already booked further Vision training on handling pathology with Mail Manager.

Flexible and relaxed

The Vision training was well-received and helped the practice staff to develop their knowledge of the system. Comments about the consultancy day included: “I found Rachael relaxed and approachable and happy to answer any questions.” and “Rachael was great. We have always thought that the training days, and particularly the flexible way in which practices are able to use them, are great, and yes I would definitely recommend to another practice.”
