On Tuesday 17 April, NHS Cumbria presents Everything You Always Wanted to Know About Interoperability but Were Too Afraid to Ask.
Free to attend for NHS employees, this interactive and educational day - held at the Rheged Centre (Redhills, Cumbria, CA11 0DQ) - will provide attendees with the opportunity to hear leading and influential figures from the NHS discuss the ways that they are using the latest interoperable technologies to realise the benefits of truly integrated care.
NHS Cumbria
In 2011 NHS Cumbria began a project with Healthcare Gateway to enable information-sharing among four different clinical systems: INPS and EMIS GP systems; Advanced Health & Care's out of hours system Adastra, and Ascribe's Symphony system, used by A&E departments. It was the first time in urgent care that a 'shared record' with information on the patient's recent history, medication and test results from two GP systems could be accessed in this way.
Ultimately, all clinicians across Cumbria will be able to view if needed and with patient consent the GP records of over 500,000 patients.
Everything You Always Wanted to Know about Interoperability but Were Too Afraid to Ask will examine the way NHS Cumbria has achieved interoperable care and the benefits this has brought as well as gaining hints and tips on how to implement your own interoperability project.
"We are convinced that record-sharing in this way is clinically the right thing to do. Access to a 'shared record' allows for much more accurate risk management by clinicians."
Dr William Lumb, Clinical Informatics Lead.
