Mark Levy's Asthma Vision Guidelines (12/2/2003) Mark Levy FRCGP was one of the six GPs who formed the General Practice Airways Group (GPIAG) in 1987; he is currently editor for the GPIAG. He has written this asthma guideline/template with two main aims:
  • to assist primary care health professionals in managing patients with asthma
  • to promote consistent use of respiratory Read codes
The guideline has been designed, based on his clinical experience of managing asthma in primary care, in a way that flows logically in clinical practice. An index links to three sections:
  • Diagnosis
  • Monitoring
  • Acute asthma
All three draw on information from the new BTS SIGN Guidelines. Strong emphasis is placed upon accurate diagnosis - for many patients in the UK are managed with asthma medication without ever being diagnosed.
The file contains an introductory document plus four guidelines as follows:
  • ML_intro.doc
  • ASTHMAML Index file
  • ASTHMAD1 Asthma Diagnosis
  • ASTHMAM1 Asthma Monitoring
  • ASTHMAA1 Ashtma Acute
